Once in awhile I come across a store on Etsy that I just can’t get enough of, and for me to really pay attention enough to an Etsy store it has to be pretty special, because though there are many stores on Etsy I love and adore, (because I shop on Etsy FAR FAR TOO MUCH), there are a few that I wholeheartedly endorse and embrace because they are just ‘different’ than everyone else.

The most recent find and hidden gem on Etsy is a newer store called Blissful Discipline, which is owned by Louis Fontana, a fantastic and absolutely kind to a fault gentleman down in Florida who makes upcycled BDSM gear out of one of my all time favorite materials. You guessed it – Rubber!

Now, as someone who wears rubber and knows the value of the different types, thicknesses, etc, they are certainly not wrong when it comes to value in comparison to leather. In fact, I can get a pair of leather pants for less than a pair of latex ones 80% of the time, depending on who I am shopping with and what the quality is, who the designer is, where it came from, how it was made, etc. There are many factors here, but either way, rubber certainly holds its own against leather, both in clothing and when it comes to toys. I enjoy both very much, each has its own unique feel and special place in BDSM.

Now, when I came across Blissful Discipline, what first struck me were all the wonderful colors, mixed with the vintage beauty of the upcycled pipes and hoses refinished and shined, some of them wrapped and coiled beautifully with the rubber and some left as is giving them a nice rustic, almost steampunk-ish look to them. I loved the look and it was something I didn’t have – so of course, I had to buy one.

When it first came in I noticed the weight was perfect, just right, it threw nicely without tiring my arm or wrist quickly at all, and it felt wonderful all together. I could easily have thrown two at once and at once I regretted not buying two.

The next two sessions I had I tried it out, using it as not only a standard flogger with your typical swings, but as a sensory play tool, running the flogger up and down my submissives back playfully, and up and down his legs, and even between the legs, not having to worry about where I touched because sterilizing and cleaning it would be a breeze because “hey, it’s rubber,”. I could flip it and twirl it, combining different patterns and speeds and the whole while it drove my submissive insane, he loved it, said it was definitely a favorite.

Immediately I went online and purchased another, along with writing a lovely message to the store owner telling him how great I thought his products were and that I was a Domme from New England who would definitely spread the good word and that I just really adored how well they performed! Well, to my surprise, not only were his products fantastic, but so was he! He sent me not one, but TWO of his fantastic Floggers, including the pink and black one you see pictured above! (yup, that cute, evil, little thing is all mine and I love it) Now one of my main things I look for when finding the ‘perfect’ store is great customer service and to me, this was “blow me out of the water” customer service!

So then of course I was writing to him again and thanking him all over the place and now, well, I have taken quite an interest in this lovely little Etsy shop that is filled with sadistic, beautiful things.

The next thing I noticed was that his prices were not insanely marked up like 90% of the stuff you see on Etsy. His stuff was actually affordable! Which I love because I already spend a fortune and then some on everything I have. (You don’t want to know the value of what is in my Dungeon…it’s a good and a bad thing)

Not to mention, most upcycled things on Etsy – let’s face it – are basically junk that people want a lot of money for and yeahno- not happening. I am not paying $45 for a doll head stuck to a damaged tennis racket. I do not care how popular that shit is – it’s shit – plain and simple. If it’s your thing, it’s your thing, I am NOT judging you, but this is my opinion. I enjoy when someone takes something and turns it into something artistic, creative and beautiful and doesn’t mark it up 400% after spending $.50 on it at the flea market. To me that is just silly, but again, that’s my personal thoughts.
